Here is a very unusual trilobite from South America. This is an enrolled Metacryphaeus giganteus from the Devonian of Bolivia. At one time, Bolivian trilobites were somewhat obtainable. However, most of the local diggers got involved in the cocaine business, which was much more profitable. Now, it is quite difficult to get specimens from this area. This specimen was acquired from the Edward Books Collection in 1988. This specimen is complete and tightly enrolled. The fossil is extremely 3-D and has very nice detail preserved. This is a large, complete example of a rare Bolivian trilobite, found at least 20 years ago.
