This is a very unusual Scutellid trilobite. It is a complete Platyscutellum massai from the Devonian deposits of Morocco. This type of trilobite differs from most Scutellids by having a very wide cephalon and a thinner-than-usual pygidium, similar to a Kolihapeltis, but with no cephalic spines. The bug has great detail - the long pleural spines and ribbed tail are easily seen. The extremely inflated trilobite has beautiful natural color preserved and is wonderfully showcased on the sculpted limestone block. This is a fabulous display specimen of this extremely uncommon Moroccan trilobite.
