This is a classic US trilobite. It is a large Phacops rana rana from the Middle Devonian shales of Western New York. This trilobite is wonderfully prone and beautifully articulated. The bug is very 3-dimensional and exhibits great detail. The individual lenses of the compound eyes are easily seen, and the many pustules on the glabella are quite evident. The thick-shelled exoskeleton is wonderfully intact. The dark fossil contrasts beautifully with the grey matrix. The bug is well presented on the 2.6'' X 4.0'' rectangular display plate of shale. This is a large, superb example of this well-known trilobite from New York.
