Here is a spctacular spiny trilobite. This is Leonaspis sp. from the Devonian of Morocco. This specimen was meticulously prepared under a microscope in the EXTINCTIONS Prep Lab here in Colorado, as are all of our Moroccan bugs. This inflated specimen is nicely articulated and exhibits very fine detail. Both free cheeks are present, and the small, blunt spines on the borders of the cheeks are all intact. The EXTREMELY LONG genal spines are easily seen, and the long, straight pleural and pygidial spines are clearly defined. The protruding eyes are also nicely displayed. The black trilobite contrasts strikingly with the lighter-colored matrix. the bug is well centered on the sculpted plate of limestone. This is a terrific example of this type of Leonaspis.
