This is an outstanding specimen of two different trilobites from the Devonian of Morocco. This unique specimen is totally natural - it is not composited. This specimen was prepared under a microscope in the EXTINCTIONS Prep Lab here in Colorado. On the left side of the plate is a stunning example of Lobopyge sp. This unusual Lichid trilobite has coarse granulations covering the entire surface of the exoskeleton. This trilobite is beautifully preserved in a contraflexed position, and the pygidial spines have been meticulously prepared in a free-standing manner. This scarce bug is very 3-dimensional and exhibits excellent detail. The small, protruding eyes are easily seen, and the flaring genal spines are clearly defined. A large Reedops cephalotes hamlagdadianus is also on the plate. This Phacopid trilobite is complete with the pygidium tucked downward (not seen in photo). This trilobite is very robust and wonderfully articulated. The natural, dark brown coloration of the trilobites contrasts well with the lighter-colored matrix. The bugs are exquisitely showcased on the sculpted block of limestone. This is a remarkable display of two very different trilobites from the Atlas Mountains.
