Here is a beautiful example of a rare trilobite. This is an unidentified Cheirurid trilobite from the Devonian of Morocco. This trilobite was prepared under a microscope in the EXTINCTIONS Prep Lab here in Colorado. This type of trilobite has two distinct, sharply pointed projections emanating from the front of the cephalon - this feature is wonderfully defined on this specimen. The eyes are very small and widely spaced, and the genal spines, pleural spines, and tailspines are all easily seen. The trilobite is 3-dimensionally preserved and very nicely articulated, which is unusual for this type. The dark brown trilobite contrasts wonderfully with the light-colored matrix. The fossil is well centered on the sculpted plate of limestone. This is an outstanding specimen of this unusual Cheirurid trilobite - probably the best example of this type we have had.
