Here is a rare trilobite. This is a Dorypyge swasii from the Wheeler Shale in Utah. This specimen was found in 1996 and just now microscopically prepared in the EXTINCTIONS Prep Lab here in Colorado. This trilobite is complete with both free cheeks present. The bug exhibits very fine detail, with the genal spines, thoracic spines, and tail spines all nicely showcased. The trilobite also has a row of short spines emanating from axial lobe of the thorax, and some of these spines have even been prepared in a free-standing manner. The trilobite has nice dark color that contrasts strikingly with the buff-colored matrix. The bug is well centered on the rectangular matrix block. This is a fine specimen of this unusual spiny trilobite from the Middle Cambrian.
