This is a beautiful spiny trilobite. It is a spectacular Selenopeltis buchii(?) from the Ordovician Layers of Morocco. This fossil was microscopically prepared in the EXTINCTIONS Preparation Lab here in Colorado. This type of trilobite is usually found in brown sandstone - this specimen is preserved in dense limestone. The thick shell exoskeleton is very well preserved and contrasts wonderfully with the sculpted matrix block. This amazing bug is very 3-D and is aesthetically centered on the natural block of limestone. And the long spines are extremely symmetrical and display perfectly - this is incredibly rare feature for this type of trilobite. This is easily the best Selenopeltis we have ever had.
