Here is a beautiful Lower Cambrian trilobite. This is a large specimen of Olenellus gilberti from Nevada. This trilobite is almost perfectly articulated and exhibits extremely fine detail. The crescent-shaped eyes are easily seen and the long, sweeping pleural spines are clearly defined and beautifully displayed - even a portion of the telson (tailspine) is quite evident. The bug has outstanding color - the yellow-brown coloration of the fossil is fully natural and quite striking. The fossil is well positioned on the plate of shale that also contains a large Olenellus chiefensis cephalon (unusual). This is a very aesthetic spiny trilobite from the Lower Cambrian of the Western United States.
