Here is a very aesthetic trilobite. This is a large Asaphus (Neoasaphus) kowalewskii from the Ordovician of Russia. This trilobite is quite inflated and wonderfully articulated. It has excellent, thick exoskeleton and exhibits fine detail. The bug has extremely long-stalked eyes that have been prepared in a free-standing position. The cephalon is slightly tucked downward so that the eye stalks extend out in front of the trilobite at a rakish angle. The caramel-brown color of the fossil contrasts wonderfully with the light-colored matrix. It is well positioned on the natural plate of limestone. This is a beautiful example of one of the most displayable trilobites in the world.
