Here is an extremely rare Middle Cambrian trilobite from China. This is Oleniodes sp. from the Kaili Beds - this formation contains a fauna that is very similar to the famous Burgess Shale deposits of Canada. This bug is complete and nicely outstretched. It is wonderfully articulated and exhibits superb detail. Both free cheeks are present and tightly attached, which is very rare - this is the only one with cheeks that we have seen. The individual thoracic segments are easily seen, and the genal spines are distinct and clearly defined - even the pygidial spines are intact! The fossil has excellent color and contrast and is well showcased on the natural plate of matrix. This is a very beautiful example of this rare spiny trilobite from China.
