This is a very nice example of a very rare trilobite. It is a Ditomopyge sp. from Pontiac, Illinois. This specimen was found DECADES ago and was in a major collection of Pontiac fossils until recently. This long-closed locality is known for its fine Pennsylvanian crinoids - trilobites are almost unheard of from this site, as most trilobites were extinct by the Pennsylvanian. This specimen is outstretched and very well articulated. The right free cheek has been restored, but it is extremely hard to tell. The color and detail of this bug is amazing for this site. This is an extremely rare trilobite from this classic Pennsylvanian crinoid site - it is in all probability the best one of these we will ever have.
