This is a very displayable specimen of Asaphus (Neoasaphus) kowalewskii from the Middle Ordovician of Russia. These stalk-eyed Asaphid trilobites have become one of the mainstays of every serious fossil collection. There are two complete examples of this trilobite on the piece and both bugs are very well preserved. The two trilobites are extremely 3-dimensional and exhibit very good detail. The long-stalked eyes have been prepared in a free-standing manner and are beautifully displayed. The caramel-colored trilobites contrast strikingly with the light-colored matrix. They are wonderfully showcased on the sculpted plate of limestone. This is an exciting double specimen of one of the favorite types of trilobites among collectors.
