This is a beautiful example of a rare trilobite. It is a large Pseudobasilicus lawrowi from the Wolchow River area of St. Petersburg, Russia. This type of trilobite has a rounded cephalon with long, thin genal spines and very small eyes set closely together. The thoracic segments flare toward the rear of the trilobite, and the semicircular pygidium is almost smooth. This specimen is incredibly prone and exhibits very fine detail. The protruding eyes are easily seen, and the thin genal spines are clearly defined. The bug has great natural color and contrasts beautifully with the light-colored matrix. The trilobite is nicely showcased on the sculpted plate of limestone that also contains a large Echinosphaerites cystoid. This is an extremely large and displayable example of this highly uncommon Ordovician trilobite.
