This is a classic US trilobite. It is a complete Dalmanites limulurus from the Middle Silurian of New York. The trilobite is almost perfectly prone and nicely articulated. It is somewhat inflated and exhibits fine detail. The compound eyes protrude above the sleek carapace of the trilobite, and even the individual lenses of the eyes are easily seen. The broad genal spines and the pointed caudal spine are clearly defined. The fossil has excellent color and contrast and is well presented on the somewhat squared plate of shale. This is a striking example of this aesthetic trilobite from the Rochester Shale.
