This is a fabulous Lower Cambrian trilobite. It is a striking Olenellus gilberti from the Pioche Formation of Nevada. This specimen was recently acquired from the DeRosear Collection, and you can easily see why Doug owned it. The trilobite is complete including the long telson (tailspine). The detail of this trilobite is simply awesome - even the tiny pleural spines are wonderfully showcased. The bug is nicely inflated and well centered on the large, squared matrix plate. But it is the natural dark color and incredible contrast that makes this bug stand out. This is easily one of the most displayable Olenellus trilobites we have ever seen, period.
