This is a fine specimen of Illaenus sinuatus from the Ordovician of Russia. This type of Illaenus is quite narrow and has a very long pygidium. The bug is extremely inflated and nicely articulated. The huge, bulbous cephalon is wonderfully displayed, and the small, widely-spaced eyes are easily seen. The thick, caramel-brown exoskeleton of the trilobite contrasts beautifully with the light-colored matrix. The trilobite is well positioned on the sculpted plate of limestone. This is a great example of this uncommon species of Illaenus from Russia.
