Here is a very attractive specimen of an uncommon trilobite. This is a Chasmops praecurrens from the Ordovician of Russia. This type of trilobite is known for its large, protruding compound eyes and long genal spines. This 3-dimensional trilobite is wonderfully articulated and beautifully displayed in the prone position. The fine detail of the trilobite is quite evident. The thin genal spines are clearly defined, and the pustulose nature of the exoskeleton is easily seen. The caramel-colored bug contrasts wonderfully with the light-colored matrix. It is well positioned on the natural plate of limestone that also contains a large example of Echinosphaerites sp., a cystoid. This is a great example of this rare trilobite from Russia.
