Here is a fine specimen of an unusual trilobite. This is Elrathia antiquata ? from the Cambrian of Georgia. This trilobite is complete and wonderfully articulated. Both free cheeks are present and tightly attached, which is extremely unusual for the trilobites from this site. The trilobite is nicely inflated and exhibits fine detail. The eyes of the trilobite are easily seen, the individual thoracic segments are well defined, and even the tiny pygidium is intact. The ancient arthropod has great color and contrast and is well presented on the large, natural plate of shale. This is an excellent specimen of this trilobite from the Conasauga Shale.
