This is an excellent trilobite that we recently obtained from an old collection. It is a Cryptolithus fittsi from the Ordovician of Oklahoma. This trilobite should not be confused with the more common Cryptolithoides that is sometimes found in these layers. This bug is a rare occurrence, and to find one with the long genal spines preserved is even more unusual! This trilobite is wonderfully articulated and exhibits superb detail. The wide, pustulose brim of the cephalon is beautifully displayed, and the long, thin genal spines are clearly defined. Even the triangular pygidium is intact and tightly attached to the thorax of the beast. The fossil has nice color and contrast and is well centered on the somewhat squared plate of matrix. This is a great example of this highly elusive trilobite from the Viola Limestone.
