This is a gorgeous trilobite. It is an Asteropyge sp. from the Devonian of Morocco. This large trilobite has been meticulously prepared in the EXTINCTIONS prep lab in Walsenburg, Colorado, as are all of our Moroccan trilobites. The 3-dimensional bug is wonderfully articulated and exhibits outstanding detail. The individual lenses of the large, crescent-shaped, compound eyes are easily seen, and the pointed lappets of the pygidium are all intact. The dark, chocolate-brown trilobite contrasts beautifully with the light-brown matrix. The fossil is almost perfectly centered, in high relief, on the large, sculpted block of limestone. This is one of the most displayable specimens of Asteropyge that we have ever seen.
