This is a very attractive US trilobite. It is a Modocia typicalis from the Marjum Formation of Utah. This prone trilobite is nicely articulated and exhibits wonderful detail. Both free cheeks are present and tightly attached. The arching genal spines are clearly defined, and the pointed pleural spines are easily seen. The reddish-brown color of the bug contrasts beautifully with the pinkish-tan matrix. The fossil is almost perfectly centered on the rectangular plate of shale. This is a pretty specimen of this spiny Modocia from the Middle Cambrian.
