This is a beautiful trilobite. It is a large Dalmanites limulurus from the Silurian of New York. This wonderfully articulated trilobite is almost perfectly prone and exhibits great detail. The crescent-shaped eyes protrude above the carapace of the trilobite, and even the individual lenses of the eyes can be seen. The long genal spines and the pointed caudal spine are clearly defined. The dark-brown color of the bug contrasts well with the gray matrix. The fossil is almost perfectly centered on the rectangular plate of shale. This is an excellent example of this classic US trilobite.
