This is a spectacular trilobite that we recently acquired from the DeRosear Collection. It is a stunning specimen of Crotalocephalus gibbus from the Devonian of Morocco. This large, outstretched trilobite is EXTREMELY 3-dimensional and wonderfully articulated. The detail of the trilobite is just amazing. The very small eyes are easily seen and the short genal spines are quite evident. The triangular pleurons terminate in sharp points, and the upswept pygidial spines are intact and have been prepared in a free-standing position. The hypostoma, or mouthplate, of the trilobite is present and well displayed. The bug has outstanding color and contrast and is beautifully showcased on the pillar of sculpted limestone. The trilobite is even more impressive than what the pictures show. This is a very striking specimen of Crotalocephalus that would be a highlight of any collection.
