This is an excellent specimen of Drotops megalomanicus from the Devonian of Morocco. This specimen was cleaned under a microscope in the EXTINCTIONS Preparation Lab, as are all of our Moroccan trilobites. This Phacopid trilobite is not only HUGE - it is EXTREMELY inflated and wonderfully articulated. This specimen exhibits great detail - the granulose texture of the thick shell exoskeleton is very well defined. Most of the individual lenses of the eyes are easily seen. The black trilobite contrasts nicely with the gray matrix. The bug is beautifully displayed on the large block of sculpted limestone. Every trilobite collector should have one of these Drotops in their collection that is this nice. Unfortunately, there just aren't enough good ones to go around.
