This is a very displayable Ordovician trilobite. It is an Isotelus gigas from the Gamebridge Quarry in Ontario, Canada. This species of Isotelus differs from some other Isotelus in the absence of genal spines. This specimen was found by Steve Hess in 1992. The trilobite is almost perfectly prone and wonderfully articulated. It is extremely 3-dimensional - it exhibits no crushing whatsoever. The eyes are totally natural and easily seen protruding above the sleek carapace of the bug. The dark brown trilobite contrasts well with the gray matrix. It is beautifully centered on the large, somewhat rectangular plate of limestone that also contains an interesting gastropod. This is a great example of Isotelus gigas from an unusual site in Canada.
