Here is a very aesthetic spiny trilobite. This is Ceratarges sp. (Type B) from Morocco. This trilobite was meticulously prepared in the EXTINCTIONS Preparation Lab, as are all of our Moroccan trilobites. This type of bug has two extremely long, curving ''horns'', which have been expertly prepared in a free-standing manner. It also has two long, sweeping genal spines and two pair of broad spines emanating from the pygidium. In addition to these large spines, each pleuron tip extends into a spiny point. There are also a few short spines between the larger spines on the pygidium. Even the eyes are borne on stalks which have also been prepared totally free of matrix. The large, outstretched trilobite is very 3-dimensional with thick exoskeleton preserved. The trilobite has great color and contrast and is nicely centered on the rounded plate of limestone. This is a very fine example of this bizarre-looking spiny trilobite.
