This is simply a spectacular trilobite. It is a large Odontochile hausmani from the Devonian of Morocco. This specimen was cleaned from a cross section from an unusually large block of limestone. It was expertly prepared in the EXTINCTIONS Preparation Lab in 1998 by Mike Thomas, who signed and dated the piece when the preparation was finally completed. This unique specimen was painstakingly prepared as a favor to one of our dedicated collectors, a ''special order'', if you will. It went directly into his collection, and was never offered for sale to the public. We have recently reacquired this special fossil, and are now offering it for sale to the general public.
This stunning trilobite is extremely inflated and very well articulated. Both free cheeks are present and tightly attached. The thick shell exoskeleton of the bug is superbly preserved and exhibits outstanding detail. The long, broad genal spines are clearly defined, and under magnification, the individual lenses of the large compound eyes are very easily seen. The tips of the pleurons are all intact, and the short caudal spine is quite distinct. The dark brown color of the trilobite contrasts strikingly with the light-colored matrix. The fossil is beautifully showcased on the large sculpted limestone block. This bug has that certain ''je ne sais quoi'' rarely found in Moroccan trilobites. It is EASILY the best quality Odontochile trilobite we have ever seen, and also one of the best trilobites of any type we have ever had, period.
