This is a rare trilobite. It is a Platyscutellum sp. from Morocco. This type should not be confused with the more common Scabriscutellum. This type of trilobite has a small node or spine emanating from each axial ring. This specimen is complete with both free cheeks present and tightly attached. The inflated trilobite is wonderfully articulated and exhibits great detail. The large, fan tail is beautifully displayed, and the holochroal eyes are wonderfully intact. The bug has excellent color and contrast and is almost perfectly centered on the rounded, sculpted plate of limestone. This is a very attractive example of this unusual Scutellid trilobite.
