This is a very attractive specimen of Asaphus (Neoasaphus) punctatus from the Ordovician of Russia. This wonderfully articulated specimen is almost perfectly prone and extremely inflated. Note the large, thick-stalked eyes - a defining feature of this species. The thick exoskeleton of the bug is totally intact and exhibits great detail. The rich, caramel-brown color of the trilobite contrasts well with the cream-colored matrix. It is beautifully presented on the sculpted plate of limestone that also contains a nice example of Echinosphaerites sp., a cystoid. This is an excellent specimen of this stalk-eyed trilobite from Russia.
