This is a very uncommon Asaphid trilobite. It is an Asaphus latus from the Lower Ordovician of Russia. This type of Asaphid trilobite has very small eyes and a rounded pygidium. This specimen is just huge - it is 3.7 inches long and almost 2.5 inches wide. The complete trilobite is nicely inflated and wonderfully articulated. It is well preserved in an outstretched position and exhibits fine detail. The low eyes are easily seen, and the individual thoracic segments are clearly defined. The caramel-colored bug contrasts strikingly with the lighter-colored matrix. The fossil is beautifully presented on the sculpted plate of limestone. This is an extremely displayable example of this unusual Asaphid trilobite.
