This is an excellent example of an unusual US trilobite. It is a large specimen of Anataphrus vigilans from the Ordovician of Iowa. This trilobite is nicely outstretched, which is extremely unusual - almost all specimens of this type are found enrolled. The trilobite is VERY 3-dimensional and exhibits fine detail. The natural eyes are easily seen protruding above the smooth carapace. The caramel-colored trilobite contrasts wonderfully with the buff-colored matrix. It is well positioned on the large, natural block of limestone. This is a very displayable example of Anataphrus vigilans from Iowa.
