This is a very attractive Silurian trilobite. It is a Calymene niagarensis from the Rochester Shale of New York. This 3-dimensional bug is almost perfectly prone and wonderfully articulated. Both free cheeks are present and tightly attached. The trilobite is very symmetrical and exhibits great detail. Even the small pustules on the glabella are clearly defined. The dark brownish-black trilobite contrasts beautifully with the gray matrix. The trilobite is extremely well centered on the somewhat rectangular plate of shale. This is an excellent example of Calymene niagarensis from the Rochester Shale.
