Here is a very rare Middle Cambrian trilobite. This is Bathynotus sp. from the Kailia Beds of China. This formation contains a fauna that is very similar to the famous Burgess Shale deposits of Canada. This is the only specimen of this trilobite that we have ever seen. This type of trilobite has long genal and pleural spines, a very rounded pygidium, and short spines or nodes in the middle of each thoracic segment. This specimen displays these features nicely. This bug still has the exoskeleton or "shell" preserved - which is very unusual. It is well positioned on the natural plate of matrix. This is a very fine example of an extremely uncommon trilobite.
