Here is a gorgeous trilobite. This is a Subasaphus platyurus from the Middle Ordovician of Russia. It is easy to see the differences between this type and the more common Russian Asaphids - this type has long genal spines, for example. This specimen is extremely large (over 4 inches) and is wonderfully articulated. This 3-dimensional specimen is almost perfectly prone and exhibits great detail. The sweeping genal spines are clearly defined, and the large eyes are easily seen. The thick-shelled, caramel-colored bug contrasts superbly with the light-colored matrix. It is beautifully presented on the slab of sculpted limestone. And this trilobite is totally natural to the plate - it has not been placed! This is a knock-your-socks-off example of a large Subasaphus platyurus from Russia.
