This is a very beautiful spiny trilobite from Morocco. It is a Ceratarges sp. (Type A) from the Devonian. This trilobite was prefessionally prepared under a microscope in the EXTINCTIONS Prep Lab here in Walsenburg, Colorado. This 3-dimensionally preserved trilobite has many long, sweeping spines. It has extended genal spines and two pair of broad, flowing spines emanating from the pygidium. A pair of thin, curving, occipital spines (which have been prepared in a free-standing manner) are also present. In addition to these large spines, each pleuron tip extends into a spine. There are also many short spines between the larger spines on the pygidium, and a curved vertical spine that is also free-standing. The eyes are borne on stalks which have also been prepared totally free of matrix. The bug has thick, dark brownish-black exoskeleton that contrasts extremely well with the light-colored matrix. The bug is naturally positioned on the large, sculpted block of limestone. This is a breathtaking example of a spiny Ceratarges from Morocco.
