Here is a very uncommon specimen of Illaenus sp. from the Ordovician of Russia. Illaenus schmidti has sharply pointed genal areas, while Illaenus tauricornis has long, curling genal spines. This unusual species of Illaenus is different. It has short, sharply-pointed genal spines, which are clearly defined on this specimen. This inflated trilobite is wonderfully articulated and well-preserved in the ''crawling'' position. The huge, bulbous glabella is beautifully displayed, and the small, widely-spaced eyes are easily seen. The bug has gorgeous, natural color and contrast and displays beautifully on the sculpted plate of limestone. This is a great example of this rare species of Illaenus from the Wolchow River.
