Here is an unusual trilobite from the Ordovician. This is a very attractive specimen of Basilicus sp. from the Wolchow River area of Russia. This type of trilobite has a semicircular cephalon with small, closely-spaced eyes, eight thoracic segments, and a fairly smooth, rounded pygidium. All of these features are easily seen on this specimen. This trilobite is almost perfectly prone and wonderfully articulated. Both free cheeks are present and tightly attached. The caramel-colored trilobite contrasts extremely well with the light-colored matrix. The bug displays beautifully on the sculpted plate of limestone. This is a very displayable example of this uncommon trilobite from Russia.
