Now THIS is a multiple trilobite plate! It is a slab of over forty Ampyxina bellatula from Pike County, Missouri. This specimen was found by Doug DeRosear in 1978, and it has been in his collection ever since. This plate has at least 43 complete trilobites preserved, along with countless counterparts and partials. This slab represents an Ordovician sea floor teeming with life, then rapidly buried without a moments notice, forming a ''fossil snapshot'', capturing that exact moment in geologic time for all eternity. The face of the rock is just covered with trilobites - there are very few blank spaces. Some of the trilobites still have their long, thin genal spines intact, which is rare for this type. This is easily one of the best Ampyxina display plates ever found, and also one of the most prolific plates of any type of trilobite, period. It just doesn't get much cooler than this!
