This is a very unusual find. It is a very large Phacops rana rana from Geneseo, New York. This specimen was found by Edward Books in the mid 1980's, and was left unprepared in his collection until now. We just recently microscopically prepared this beauty in the EXTINCTIONS Prep Lab, and it was worth the wait. The trilobite is prone on the rock and extremely 3-D. The detail is excellent and the eye facets are, dare we say it, flawless. But the extremely unusual feature of this bug is its size - almost 3 inches long! The head itself is almost two inches wide - wider than most complete Phacops from New York are long! This is a simply a HUGE specimen of a classic Phacops rana rana from New York State - I'm sure we will never have another one quite like this!
