This is a fine specimen of Dalmanites limulurus from the Silurian of New York. This trilobite is wonderfully articulated and almost perfectly prone. The crescent-shaped eyes protrude above the carapace of the trilobite, and even the individual lenses of the eyes can be seen. The long genal spines and the pointed caudal spine are clearly defined. The bug has great dark-brown color and contrasts well with the gray matrix. The fossil is almost perfectly centered on the somewhat rectangular plate of shale. This is a very nice example of this classic US trilobite.
