Here is a classic Silurian trilobite. This is Dalmanites limulurus from the Rochester Shale of New York. The trilobite is perfectly prone and exhibits fine detail. The long genal spines are easily seen, and the triangular caudal spine is quite evident. The crescent-shaped eyes protrude above the "sleek" carapace of this well articulated trilobite, and even the individual lenses of the eyes are nicely preserved. The dark brown bug contrasts wonderfully with the gray matrix. This is a very striking specimen of this distinctive trilobite from the Silurian.
