Here is a fine example of Illaenus sp. from the Ordovician of Russia. This type of Illaenus is long and slender and has very rounded genal angles. This trilobite is complete and almost perfectly prone - which is very unusual. Most Illaenid trilobites have the cephalon in a "tucked" position. This bug is extremely 3-dimensional and nicely articulated. Both free cheeks are present and tightly attached. The caramel-colored trilobite contrasts nicely with the light-colored matrix. It is well presented on the natural plate of limestone that also contains a large specimen of Echinosphaerites, a cystoid. This is a great specimen of an outstretched Illaenus at a very low price.
