This is a very rare Russian trilobite. It is a complete Remopleurides nanus from the Ordovician layers near St. Petersburg. This type is known for its very large hypostoma (mouthplate) and long body spine. This specimen was prepared dorsally to expose the axial spine. This spine has been prepared so that it is free-standing on the body. The rest of the trilobite is nicely outstretched and has very good detail. There is also a beautiful brachiopod preserved on the matrix plate. This is only the third specimen of this type of trilobite we have seen, and it is the best of the three. It is a very collectible example of this very rare spiny Russian trilobite.
