Here is an outstanding US trilobite. This is an outstretched specimen of Maurotarion christyi from the Silurian of Indiana. This specimen was found a number of years ago and recently acquired from a major Waldron Shale collection. The quarry where this specimen was found is now filled with water and closed to collecting. It is very rare to find this trilobite in the prone position - usually they are enrolled. This spectacular specimen is very 3-dimensional and wonderfully articulated. Both free cheeks are present and tightly attached. The bug exhibits wonderful detail. The long, thin genal spines are beautifully displayed and the protruding eyes are easily seen. The cream-colored trilobite contrasts nicely with the light-colored matrix. It is well centered on the natural plate of limestone that also contains a few other fossil fragments. And best of all, there is NO REPAIR OR RESTORATION to this stunning trilobite. This is one of the best examples we have ever seen of this trilobite from the Waldron Shale.
