This is a very attractive trilobite. It is an outstretched Morocconites malladoides from the Devonian of Morocco. Morocconites has been called the "unicorn of trilobites" because of the distinctive pointed spine protruding from the front of the cephalon. This specimen is very 3-dimensional and tightly articulated. The bug has extremely thick exoskeleton and exhibits fine detail. The large compound eyes are quite evident and the cephalic spine is easily seen. The spine has been prepared in a free-standing manner for optimal display. The dark brownish-black color of the trilobite contrasts nicely with the light gray matrix. The ancient arthropod is well positioned on the block of dense limestone. This is a very displayable example of this unusual-looking trilobite.
