Here is an outstanding example of an extremely rare Canadian trilobite. This is a complete Nanillaenus latiaxiatus from the Ordovician. This trilobite is EXTREMELY PRONE - almost always, the cephalon is tucked downward in the "classic" Illaenid position. The trilobite is inflated and wonderfully articulated. The free cheeks are present and tightly attached. The fossil has beautiful, thick exoskeleton and exhibits fine detail. The individual thoracic segments are clearly defined and the small eyes are easily seen. Under magnification, the slightly corrugated ornamentation of the exoskeleton is revealed. The fossil has great, dark color and contrasts nicely with the gray matrix. It is almost perfectly centered on the large, rectangular plate of limestone. This is one of the most displayable examples of Nanillaenus we have ever seen.
