This is an excellent Phacops rana rana double from the Middle Devonian of New York. This specimen was found in 1979 at the famous Penn-Dixie Quarry. There are two outstretched trilobites on the plate. The smaller bug was actually crawling over the larger one when it was fossilized! This is a natural occurrence - no compositing has been done to the plate. Both trilobites are inflated and exhibit fine detail. The individual facets of the eyes and the pustulose glabellas are extremely well preserved. The dark grayish-black trilobites contrast beautifully with the light gray matrix. The bugs are nicely centered on the large matrix plate. This is a very collectible double specimen of Phacops from New York.
