Here is a very rare Middle Cambrian Chinese trilobite. This is Kailiella sp. from the Kailia Beds. This formation contains a fauna that is very similar to the famous Burgess Shale deposits of Canada. This is the only specimen of this trilobite that we have ever seen. The bug is complete and nicely outstretched. It is wonderfully articulated and exhibits great detail. Both free cheeks are present and tightly attached. The individual thoracic segments are easily seen and the short pleural spines are clearly defined. Even the tiny pygidium is intact and nicely preserved. The 3-dimensional fossil has good color and contrast. It is very well centered on the oval plate of matrix. This is a great example of this unusual Chinese trilobite.
