This is a beautiful plate of fossils. There are two excellent Asaphid trilobites and one cystoid, a primitive echinoderm, on the same plate. This specimen is from the Middle Ordovician of Russia. The trilobite on the left is Asaphus (Neoasaphus) punctatus. This species has very protruding eyes. The unusual trilobite in the middle of the plate is Asaphus (Neoasaphus) holmi. This trilobite has a very wide body style and shorter eyes. The trilobites are very prone and nicely articulated. The bugs have wonderful, thick exoskeleton. Associated with the two trilobites is Echinosphaerites sp., a spherical cystoid. All of the fossils are extremely 3-dimensional. These ancient life forms have great color and contrast. They are well positioned on the large plate of limestone. This is a gorgeous example of Ordovician sea life from Russia.
